Inspirational Corner

The most powerful anchor on our potential to soar high in life is the past. The past contains the dead weight of experience, learned beliefs and all our mistakes. Life cannot truly begin until we are able to say goodbye to the legacies of yesterday at will. Like a filing cabinet, the past is a resource of information for learning, but it is not a place to live. When you go to work do you spend your day in the filing cabinet? How often will you/did you live in the past today? Say goodbye and…

VACANCIES

New Police Constables
£22,443 to £37,254 plus £6,663 London weighting and allowances
New constables will commence service at the start of the scale and will progress according to relevant Home Office guidelines and police regulations.

London has a population of over 8 million people and is home to over 40 different communities who speak in excess of 300 different languages. Whilst our officers are able to effectively carry out their duties without the ability to speak a second language, a police constable that possesses an additional language skill can be especially valuable when dealing with vulnerable victims where English isn’t their first language.

That’s why, for our next recruitment campaign we’re looking for candidates who meet our standard eligibility criteria and also have the ability to speak a second language.

As a constable in the Met you’ll operate on the front line, supporting victims and witnesses, providing reassurance and instilling confidence. Having officers who speak an additional language can help them and their colleagues to more effectively engage with the communities of London when dealing with everyday policing situations.

To be eligible to apply as part of this campaign candidates must be able to speak of the 14 languages below:

Yoruba (Nigeria) • Hebrew • Arabic • Hindi • Punjabi • Italian • German • Turkish • Greek • Spanish • Polish • Portuguese • Sinhala (Sri Lanka) • Bengali

We’ve designed a bespoke test which will assess each candidate’s proficiency in their identified language and only those that meet the required level will be allowed to progress to the next stage. The assessment will focus on listening and speaking skills.
